Version 2026-10-06
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of Lot (the “App” or the “Services”). In these Terms, “Lot,” “we,” and “us” mean the organization that operates the App. When we say “you,” we mean the person creating an account, and the lab or organization they are creating it on behalf of. By creating an account you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.
We may update these Terms over time. Whenever we make a significant change, we will refresh the version date at the top of this page, and a new signup will be asked to accept the current version - see “Changes to these terms” below.
Lot is chemical inventory record-keeping software: photographing bottles, extracting label fields, tracking location and quantity, and surfacing hazard-related information gathered from third-party sources (such as PubChem) or entered by your own lab members. The App is a record-keeping aid. It is not a substitute for your institution's own chemical safety, hazard communication, or EHS policies and procedures, and it does not verify regulatory compliance on your behalf. See the Liability Waiver for what this means for chemical handling and storage decisions specifically.
A self-serve signup starts a free pilot for the period stated at signup. It is really free: we do not ask for a credit card, and, just as for any future paying lab, we do not sell your data. We may introduce paid plans in the future. If we do, any change to what a given account is charged will be communicated before it takes effect, and existing trial labs will not be switched to a paid plan without notice.
You may stop using the App and ask for your account and lab's data to be deleted at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate an account for violation of these Terms, non-payment of any future fees, or extended inactivity, with notice where reasonably possible. Once an account is canceled or terminated, its content becomes inaccessible immediately and is deleted from our active systems within 60 days, consistent with the retention described in the Privacy Policy. We cannot recover this information once it has been deleted, so export anything you need first.
We reserve the right at any time to modify, extend, or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, any part of the App, with or without notice - for example, retiring a feature we have replaced with something better, or changing how a hazard field is computed as our sources improve. This section does not reduce the data-retention and deletion commitments described elsewhere in these Terms and in the Privacy Policy.
Lot (the App) is the sole and exclusive property of Lot, built entirely on its founders' own time with their own resources, independent of any employer, university, or research institution - see the Legal notice for the full statement. You give us a limited license to use the content you and your lab upload (photographs, extracted fields, corrections) only to operate the App for you; we claim no ownership over it, and it remains yours. You may not duplicate, copy, or reuse any portion of the App's code, design, or visual elements without our express written permission.
We design the App with care, based on our own experience and the feedback of the labs who use it, but we make no guarantee that it will meet every requirement or expectation. As with any software, it inevitably has some bugs; we track reported bugs and prioritize the ones affecting security, privacy, or safety-relevant data, but we do not guarantee completely error-free Services.
The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Lot does not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any extracted, classified, or hazard-related field it displays is accurate or complete.
You expressly understand and agree that Lot shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages - including but not limited to damages for loss of data, goodwill, or use - arising from or related to use of the App, including reliance on any chemical, hazard, or storage-suitability information it displays, whether as a breach of contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory of liability, to the fullest extent permitted by law. See the Liability Waiver for the specific acknowledgments that apply to chemical safety and handling decisions.
These Terms may be updated from time to time. A material change will be reflected in a new version date at the top of this page, and a new signup will be asked to accept the current version. Continued use of the App by an existing account after a change constitutes acceptance of the update.
Questions about these Terms can be directed to the Lot founders through the contact page.
